Stu Hamstra

No histrionics, no overdone emotional drama - just beautiful vocals, faithful to the setting of each song! Marissa captured the uniqueness of each lyric and still gave each song her own special style.

Marissa Mulder kicks off our Cabaret in a New Key shows, featuring performers who are pressing the edges of the form.
With MD Jon Weber and her entire New York-based band, Marissa encounters the songs of Tom Waits, in a beautiful, crystalline distillation of their power and beauty. Will Friedwald of The Wall Street Journal says that Mulder projects and amplifies her soul through these songs, virtually defining what cabaret is supposed to be. Each of the souls lucky enough to hear the unmissable Ms. Mulder reaches the same end.

2011 METROSTAR CHALLENGE WINNER
Marissa Mulder in ILLUSIONS/ CD Release

One night only Tuesday, October 9th at 7pm
at the Metropolitan Room, 34 West 22nd street

Marissa MulderMarissa Mulder, winner of the 2011 MetroStar Challenge, brings her critically acclaimed show she was awarded as her prize back to the Metropolitan Room. The show, called "Illusions," explores fantasy, imagination, dreams and reality through song. From high expectations and hopes to the realities of faded love, loss and all of the beauty, humor and disillusionment along the way. "Illusions" is directed by the multi-award winning vocalist Karen Oberlin with musical direction by Bill Zeffiro. Mulder will also be joined by John Loehrke on the bass and Pete Anderson (of the famed Anderson Twins) on saxophone and clarinet. She will be singing the music of such composers as Harold Arlen, Johnny Mercer, Marvin Hamlisch, Leslie Bricusse, Mickey Leonard and many, many more.

This is going to be a special night because my live CD of "Illusions", produced by Kitty Skrobela of Miranda Music, will be available for you to take home after the show. The CD is coming along beautifully and we can't wait to share it with you!
